Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations

I just saw the Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibit at the Met. This fascinating and insightful retrospective explores the careers of Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two women separated by different times, but both progressive and important figures in the fashion industry.

As one moved through the exhibit exploring the collections, eight vignettes directed by Baz Luhrman, were projected behind each of the displays, and featured  a dialogue between Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli (embodied by the marvelous Judy Davis). Aha! This is the impossible conversation. Using quotes from Schiaparelli's autobiography, Shocking Life, the women discuss their views on beauty, femininity, cultural influences, and politics. They each had such different and thought provoking points of view which were reflected in their designs.

See this show if you have the chance! It is an absolute must if you are interested in fashion.
