The Foundation Files

I don't know what it is but beauty products are life. I still get a thrill opening a brand new lipstick or testing the pigmentation of concealer. I'm the girl walking around Sephora I walk around with dozens of swatches on the back of my hands. Call me crazy, but I have always been fascinated by the world of makeup. Formulations, textures, ingredients, it is an ever-changing, ever-evolving industry.  I tell you this because when I recommend a product I really have gone to the nines of testing it. Foundation is my specialty, probably my favorite product in a beauty regime as it creates the canvas and backdrop of your whole face.  Everyone wants their skin to look beautiful, so I thought I would break down some of my favorite foundations and the different ways in which I use them.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation | When someone asks me for a foundation recommendation, I always suggest this first. Bobbi knows skin, she offers an incredible range of colors. The texture is thin, easy to use, offers a light to medium coverage, and does not feel heavy. This is my everyday go-to. {I am Shade 3.5 Warm Beige.}

YSL Touche Eclat Radiance Awakening Foundation | This is a lovely, radiant foundation. Best suited to a normal to dry skin type, it gives a healthy glow. I use this on days I need an extra boost or when I feel like I didn’t get much sleep. {I am Shade B30.}

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation | This is a classic, makeup artist staple that has been used on red carpets for years. It has a smooth, silicone finish that glides onto skin making it instantly photo-ready. This works best when  applied with a brush or damp sponge for a seamless finish. Con, I always have difficulty finding a perfect shade. {I am between Shades 4 & 5.}

Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation | I like this foundation for easy, fuss-free makeup days. I shake it in the bottle and apply with hands like a moisturizer. It is similar to a tinted moisturizer but with more coverage and an ultra light feel. Very Illuminating. {I am Shade 4.}

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation | Ms. Tilbury’s newest innovative foundation is different than any other foundation I have tried. It has a much thicker texture, very pigmented, but does not feel heavy on the skin. I would save this for special occasions or when you want to look good in pictures. Also helpful, to check out her video tutorials where she shows how to use it, see here. {I am Shade 5.}

Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation | A beautiful, highly pigmented foundation. This formula dries down more matte than I would typically go for, but it results in a flawless face. I use this a lot in my shoots because it is very perfecting without looking like heavy makeup. With an expensive price tag, I would save this for a special occasion like a wedding or if you are photographed a lot. I typically apply with fingers to really work the product into the skin and then go over with a damp sponge. {I am Shade 3 Fawn in Winter & Shade 4 Bisque in Summer.}
