10 Daily Essentials
I always love a snoopy peek into people's daily essentials. So I thought I would share some of mine.
1. Flowers
I cannot live without flowers. Last week I was at a dinner to which a man sitting next to me pointed at his girlfriend and said "she never lets me buy flowers," to which she said "they are a waste of money," to which I shuddered in horror. Yes flowers are fleeting, but they give me such a sense of daily joy, whether it's sitting at my desk or lighting up a room. I love going to my secret spots weekly scooping up the most seasonal blooms.
2. Fashion Magazines
You must obsess, live and breath your world. I love a good old fashioned hard copy magazine. In Carrie Bradshaw's infamous words about first moving to New York, "Sometimes I bought Vogue instead of dinner, I just felt it fed me more." I love nothing more on a Sunday then cozying up with a big stack of fashion magazines and pouring over the latest editorials and articles. This September issue of Rosie is divine, I love the use of these unexpected colors for a Fall cover.
3. Instagram
Instagram has taken over and it is such a visual representation of the imagery you are trying to portray. While it is sometimes the bane of my existence, I wake up scrolling through my feed, morning coffee in hand. My favorite instagrams to browse as of late : @beautylookbook, @parisinfourmonths, @jennikayne, @zachmilne, @bonappetitmag, @violetgrey, and @sleepyjones.
4. Skincare
I am a lover of skincare. In the morning, after I wash my face, I have been applying Tata Harper's Replenishing Nutrient Complex (a rollerball full of vitamins and antioxidants) and some sunscreen (typically the one by Control Correctives I get from my facialist, above is the Coola Natural Sunscreen in Fresh Mango.) Next I will apply La Mer Illuminating Eye Gel (perfect for under makeup) and a dab of the Glossier Balmdotcom on the lips to go! Midday (but really all day) I will mist my skin with my favorite facial mist of all time Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist. It brings makeup back to life as well as giving you a bit of a pick-me-up. Another absolute must-have is the La Natura Anti-Stress Rollerball, this is a blend of calming and reviving essential oils that I rub between my hands before taking a few deep breaths. It instantly calms and relaxes especially after a day of LA traffic.
5. Lip Combo
I have to have a nude lip on me at all times. But I hate to admit that these 6 alone were all taken out of my purse. We all have this many nude lipstick floating around right, right? My favorite lip liner is by It Cosmetics in Nude Buff, it actually stays put! Nude lippie favorites include Tom Ford Blush Nude, Nars Raquel, By Terry Lady Bare, Nudestix Lip Pencil in Whisper, and Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Nude.
6. Coffee
I am definitely not one of those decaffeinated green tea soy latte kind of girls, I love my coffee, the bolder the better. I have many favorite places in Los Angeles (Go Get Em' Tiger in Hancock Park | CoFax, Grafitti, The Commissary in West Hollywood | Primo Passo and Groundworks in Santa Monica.) Above is the Caffe Nico from a lovely coffeeshop in Westwood called Espresso Profeta.
7. Sunglasses
You have to have a great pair of sunnies in Los Angeles, it is an absolute requirement. I always find my favorites at Oliver Peoples.
8. Jewelry
I am a minimalist when it comes to jewelry. I am partial to simple gold layered pieces. My daily essentials include a simple gold ring (a gift from my dad to my mom), 2 layered gold cuffs (one from Saint Laurent and the other from beautiful Hawaiian brand Knotty Mermaid), and my diamond bar necklace from Carbon & Hyde (a birthday gift this year.)
9. Tote Bag
I am constantly on the go. I always have my cameras, computer, memory cards, hard drive, notebooks, touch up kit, and whatever else with me. I am a traveling photo shoot. Everyone and their mother has a Goyard, so I am so in love with this version, Saint Laurent's newest bag Le Tote. I LOVE this bag. It is the lightest weight and holds all of my essentials, it also makes for the most perfect carry on ever.
10. Computer
I obviously cannot do what I do without a computer. I have two that I bounce back and forth between, I am a longtime Apple lover. I use Photoshop, iPhoto, iMovie, Final Cut, all to create the content I make for my blog. A blogger daily essential.
