Thanksgiving Table Ideas
I am really looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. We always have a small gathering, but I like to make it feel really special. Over the years, we have formed a few traditions. On Wednesday, I go to the farmers market and pick up all the produce for the next day. I set the table and focus on the cooking! This year we are going to break with tradition and make a couple of roast chickens instead of turkey. As for the table, here are some of the things inspiring me this year.
Flowers and Candles
I love flowers, branches, anything seasonal! Because I usually have a neutral table, I like to add in color with olive branches, roses, amaranth and fruit. Because I am in California and olive trees are so present, I love the idea of this olive leaf wreath on the door to greet guests!
I love beeswax candles, another gift from bees! Besides the beautiful deep amber color, a pure beeswax candle has a gentle honey scent and when burned act as a natural air purifier. I have tried many, but my favorite brand is Greentree Home. The candles are hand poured by a small American company based in the foothills of the Catskills Mountains. My favorite style are the Everyday Tapers.
Dinnerware and Serving Pieces
I have collected different styles of dinner and serving pieces over the years. I love beautiful, simple, handmade ceramics like my plates by Meghan Flynn or salad bowl by Gjusta Goods. But I also love vintage pieces like an ironstone platter or transferware gravy boat. So why not mix? I think it looks modern and effortless to combine the two. I also love these little fluted bowls from RW Guild to have as salt holders down the table. Here are some my picks:
Flatware, Glasses and Linens
It is always fun to bring out the good glassware this time of year. I have these short stemmed glasses which work well for water or wine. I also have been lusting over these stunning Fferone champagne glasses! Aren’t they beautiful?
For table lines, I always love a simple linen table cloth (like this one.) I also love the idea of adding a linen runner like these ones from Hale Mercantile (they have stunning colors!)
As for flatware, I have been collecting these brushed matte gold Mepra place settings. I love that they add warmth, but aren’t shiny or flashy. (below is an image of how I displayed them on a past Thanksgiving.) Lastly, traditional heavy silver flatware is always timeless.
