Things of Note | February
Happy February! I have been catching up on blog posts and have a few ideas in the works: new recipes, spring fashion, and some new interior favorites.
I have a revived sense of inspiration at the moment and am looking forward to sharing soon. In the meantime, I have listed some of the things I have been up to.
Marmalade Making
Seville oranges are in season, they are the sour orange that gives marmalade its distinctive bitter flavor. My first batch came out a little firmer than I wanted, so going to tweak and make a second batch this week with some adjustments. As citrus season is in full swing, I also want to try and make some Pink Grapefruit and Cara Cara Orange jams as well.
Composting
One of my ultimate things to check off my list for over a year now is to set up some sort of a compost system. Ideally, I would love to have something built (see my dream compost setup below from Edible Gardens), but for now, I have been using the Vitamix Food Composter. In some ways, it feels entirely wrong to speed up nature’s process with a piece of machinery, but I will say it has been a good temporary solution. I cook every day and it was with great pain I was throwing away fruit and vegetable scraps. Now I collect any leftovers from throughout the day and put them into the machine at night, press the button, and the next morning there is beautiful compost. I have been sprinkling in the garden, in pots, and under fruit trees. It makes me so happy to see it all go back into the earth.
This cedar compost bin from Gardeners Supply is an attractive option as well.
AT HOME
Since we have all been spending so much time at home, it has really made me home in on things I want to update, move around, or get rid of altogether. I have been spending more time looking at design books or accounts for new interior inspiration. Two of my favorites are Gil Schafer and Rose Uniacke. I have also gone deep looking for antiques and searching online auction houses.
Lately, I have been very into updating and getting rid of any cheap vases and replacing them with ones I love (ready for Spring flowers!) I also have been eyeing lamps, some favorites below:
COZY FAVORITES
I feel so lucky to be an ambassador for Jenni Kayne and I have a few favorites this month like this Cashmere Cocoon Cardigan in Charcoal. I also picked up a new linen pillow and the Montecito candle, which has the most complex layered scent with spearmint and jasmine, and musk, you must smell it!
